The Federal Government has revealed that many casualties may emerge in the future as a result of coronavirus in Nigeria.

Jameela News reports that the Chairman of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19, Boss Mustapha disclosed this after the latest Coronavirus update from Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) emerged on Sunday.

In a press briefing on the update, Mustapha said that the current report of increased cases is as a result of the wider test coverage on the virus across Nigeria.

The PTF chairman warned that if the case keeps rising, there would be many COVID-19 casualties across the country.

His words, “The figures you see now are a reflection of the testing capacity of the country. We have ramped up testing. From just about two centres, we now have over 30 and so, the results are the figures you see now.

“The outcome of which will be an increase in the number of casualties in the next three weeks, when they’ll start manifesting.”

Meanwhile, Jameela News gathered that on Sunday, June 21, the NCDC recorded nearly 20,000 cases in Nigeria.

Despite the stated 10 pm to 4 am curfew and reduced social activities preventive measures enacted by the Government since the index case was reported in February, Nigeria among other countries in the world continue to experience a spiral in the number of patients.
