Edo 2020: Obaseki Loses PDP Primaries Ticket
Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki has been restrained from contesting in the People’s Democratic Party (PDP)primaries by a Federal Highcourt sitting in Port Harcourt.
Jameela News reports that Governor Obaseki, who decamped from the ruling APC after he was disqualified by the screening committee from contesting in their own primaries, was also disqualified from contesting in PDP Governorship primaries on Tuesday, June 23.
How Obaseki lost PDP primaries ticket
Justice E.A Obile who presided over the motion exparte filed by a PDP Governorship aspirant, Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama, on June 22, gave the order 24 hours later.
He said, “That order of interim injunction is granted restraining INEC from further recognising or accepting Obaseki or any other person as candidate of the PDP other than those name of the plaintiff or that of other applicants, who have already purchased nomination forms and were screened within the time stipulated in the PDP’s timetable for the nomination process for the 2020 governorship election in Edo State.”
This online news medium understands that Ogbeide Ihama filed that the court restrains the PDP and its officials from allowing Obaseki, any member or non-member but those who purchased the Governorship forms at the stated date on the party’s official time-table before the primaries were scheduled for June 25.
The defendants in the suit included Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), PDP, Governor Godwin Obaseki, the PDP national chairman Prince Uche Secondus, Emmanuel Ogidi, Chief Debekeme Boyleyefa, Senator James Manager and Ajibola Muraina.
The case was adjourned to June 24.
