Jameela News reports that former Aviation Minister Femi Fani-Kayode has confirmed that the national leader of the ruling party, All Progressives Congress (APC) Bola Ahmed Tinubu is seriously sick.

Fani-Kayode, who is a member of the major opposition party in Nigeria, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) made this claim hours after reports emerged that the APC chieftain was ill and his camp debunked the reports.

Sources close to the family were unable to disclose the cause of the ailment as people began speculating that the politician may have been infected with the deadly COVID-19 virus.

However, Tinubu’s spokesperson, Tunde Rahman and his son Seyi Tinubu refuted the speculation, labelling the reports “Fake News”, adding that the claim was a “lie from the pit of hell”.

Tunde Rahman said: “That’s a lie from the pit of hell. Asiwaju is very okay. He is very fine and not sick. He does not have COVID-19. If you must know, we have done COVID-19 test 15 times, each time he felt we had travelled and mingled with many people and could be vulnerable even though he always wore his face mask, but he has been certified negative 15 times.”

“Yes, he is abroad. Not in France, but in London resting. So you can see the falsity in that information you talked about. Thank you.”

However, Femi Fani-Kayode in reaction to Seyi Tinubu and Bakare Rahman’s claim took to the microblogging site, Twitter on Sunday evening to insist that the APC chieftain was “critically ill”.

Referring to Bola Ahmed Tinubu as BAT, he alleged authoritatively that the APC national leader was ill and hospitalized in Paris. He also prayed for the speedy recovery of the politician, adding that it was not strange for a mortal to be sick.

Fani-Kayode further condemned the action of Tinubu’s camp for making his illness a “state secret”.

He wrote:

“I have been informed that BAT is ill & is in a Paris hospital. It is not a crime to be ill & neither should it be a state secret.

All mortals fall ill from time to time.”

“I join others in praying for him& I wish him well. May God grant him a speedy recovery & a safe journey home,” he added.
