Senator Akpabio of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has defeated Senator Yari of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to emerge the 10th Senate President of Nigeria.
Jameela News reports that the former Minister of the Niger Delta Affairs, Godswill Akpabio, on Tuesday, emerged the 10th Senate President after securing more votes from 109 members of the upper chambers.
Senator Akpabio of the All Progressives Congress was nominated by Senator Ali Ndume while Senator Yari was nominated by Senator Ishiaku Abbo.
Jameela News understands that Senator Godwill Akpabio of the APC is a past Governor of Akwa-Ibom State while Aziz Yari a member of the People’s Democratic Party is a member of the PDP.
On Monday, ahead of the 10th inauguration of the National Assembly, President Bola Tinubu had mobilized support for Akpabio.
However, reports reaching the newsroom reveals that Akpabio and Yari are in a tight race during the election.
